On September 2, 1965, Dallas native Ernie Banks hit his 400th home run. Banks connected off of Curt Simmons of the St. Louis Cardinals. The Chicago Cubs defeated the Cardinals 5 to 3 with pitcher Bob Hendley gaining the victory. This was Banks' 24th home run of the year. The future Hall of Famer, Banks, finished the 1965 season with 28 home runs, 106 rbi's and a .265 batting average. Banks retired after the 1971 season, completing his 19 year career all with the Cubs. He finished with 512 home runs. Banks was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977.
Former SMU All-American running back Eric Dickerson was born in Sealy,Texas on this day in 1960. After leading Sealy to the 1978 state championship, Dickerson enrolled at SMU. His 48 touchdowns at SMU tied Doak Walker's career scoring record. Dickerson was the second player drafted in the 1983 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. He played 11 years in the NFL rushing for 13,259 yards and scoring 90 touchdowns. Dickerson's football career was completed with his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999.
